Computing for Life

No matter how big or small the questions and your curiosity - we help to change lives by giving you the skills to:

  • master your devices and tools

  • solve technology questions

  • be creative and explorative with computers

  • teach others in the subject Computing

We give you the possibility to use modern devices and programs - tablet computers and smartphones, cloud-based applications and professional tools. All tailored to your needs and interests, whether for personal or professional use.

All ages and knowledge levels are welcome - from younger audiences at outreach events to mature computer users.

IT Skills and IT Productivity - for All

Modern times require modern skills. By now, it is not only about knowing the tools, but also about understanding trends, navigating the internet securely, and not drown in Information Overload.

Outreach Events -
for Girls and Boys

The future lies in the hands of the next generation. Our outreach events are aimed at young people and they teach skills, allow for creativity and inform about IT careers.

Workshops -
for Teachers

The new "Computing" subject replaces "ICT" in 2014. Teachers now need to have programming skills, know the concepts and terminology of Computer Science, and apply all this in the classroom.

Who we are

Who we are

The social enterprise "At Home With IT" was initiated and is run by Elena Hensinger, who is a Computer Scientist and technology communicator.

The idea for technology training was born during her PhD, when Elena was introduced to the topics of digital divide, digital exclusion and possible misconceptions about Computer Science and IT technology.

After these revelations, there seemed to be only way to go, and that was to contribute to change these matters! And so the story of "At Home With IT" started...

Our Vision

SCROLL DOWN

Our Vision

Our vision is a world where every member of our society, no matter their age and background, feels digitally included and confident in their skills to use computers.

To reach that goal, we offer friendly introduction to computers and digital technology in various formats and for different audiences. We organise events, talks and workshops, and offer one-to-one training and small-group sessions. We especially aim to support mature computer beginners, women and young people to explore the possibilities and enjoyment that Information Technology (IT) and computers can offer.

Our Values

Our Values

Our work is guided by the topics of ethics, environment and community.

We believe in the power of small and big daily decisions, such as:

  • Having our business bank account with Triodos Bank - a bank which has clear guidance on their investments.
  • Using refurbished devices for training (and showing our clients how to get them) - IT, in the end, produces a lot of waste, too.
  • Printing on recycled paper, whether it is for training materials, vouchers and even business cards.
  • Travelling to our clients by cycling or public transport.
  • Being an active member of and accepting the Bristol Pound.
  • Being a social enterprise and working towards positive social change.
